Euro Motors, the exclusive importer of BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce in Bahrain, gets set to recommence the MINI Challenge Season – the Middle East’s first one make car series – with race two and three on October 1st at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The event, which is open to the public, will see the teams meet up again after the summer break to battle it out in a series of 15 lap head to head races. The specification of the MINI Club Sport Cars, which are each sponsored by local companies, is the same, ensuring that driver skill is the determining factor.
“The first round of the MINI Challenge was a triumph for everyone involved and we are thrilled that the drivers could demonstrate their abilities in a safe and controlled environment,” said Zayed Al Zayani, Managing Director, Euro Motors. “By presenting the opportunity for amateur racing talents to participate in this motor sports programme, Euro Motors aspires to demonstrate the importance of safe and responsible driving.
Having taken maximum points at last season’s race, Fahad Al Mussalam, Team Unstopabuls, is keen to recreate the success of race one.
“The drivers have had the summer to recuperate and everyone is really excited about getting on with the season. I just hope I can drive as well as last time and keep Team Unstopabuls at the top of the table.”
The rest of the season, which will culminate on December 10th, consists of six more races to be held at the BIC,. Euro Motors expects the event to raise serious interest from local and regional companies who want to be involved in this landmark race series.
“Euro Motors takes pride in bringing this well respected concept to Bahrain in an effort to keep the Kingdom at the forefront of motor sporting excellence in the Middle East,” said Al Zayani. “MINI is known and loved throughout the world and we want to use that provide a safe and fun event that all can enjoy.”
The ‘MINI Club Sport’ Edition, a modified racing version of the MINI Cooper, features an FIA-approved roll cage, a racing seat with five point racing harness, a fire extinguisher and both external and internal electronic and fuel safety cut-off switches. The car also comes with up-rated brakes and a lowered and stiffened suspension, with up-rated dampers and springs, to ensure optimum handling under both road and race conditions.
The ‘MINI Club Sport’ is converted by the renowned John Cooper Garages in the UK, which have over 40 years of motorsport experience. Featuring a standard 115 bhp MINI Cooper, 4-cylinder engine with 1.6 litre displacement, the conversion has been designed to be a dual-purpose car satisfying the requirements of both daily road use and competitive motorsports.
