Euro Motors, the organisers of the MINI Challenge, held a special award ceremony on the first day of the F3 SuperPrix to present the winners of race three with their trophies, ensuring that all prizes had been issued before the final race of the season.
The results of race three, which took place in October, were delayed and investigated after protests were made by two of the drivers regarding a series of illegal yellow flag overtakings. The results were reviewed by an independent panel that decided Castrol’s Ali Al-Kobaisi should be placed first with both Teams Unstopabulls and Bison Racing penalised from podium finishes.
“Although it took a while, it was important for us to present the awards to the drivers of race three after carefully investigating the race incidents” said Zayed Al Zayani, Deputy Managing Director, Euro Motors – the excusive importer of BMW, MINI And Rolls Royce in the Kingdom of Bahrain. “We wanted to ensure that we issued a clear and fair ruling as the drivers prepared to embark on the final race of the Challenge.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Al Zayani went on to highlight the necessity of the delay to ensure fair practice, “We are proud to be a race series sanctioned by the Bahrain Motor Federation and fully stood behind the decisions of our experienced stewards who made their judgements based on rules and regulations of the highest international standards.
“This was the first time that these rules and regulations had been implemented in the Kingdom and it highlighted the seriousness with which people are now handling the sport”.
